The Company:
Grit Bowls Catering is a first-to-market food concept specializing in customizable grits-based bowls. Centered around the Southern comfort staple, the brand offers a unique fast-casual experience where customers can build their own bowl with a variety of unlimited toppings—ranging from savory proteins to fresh vegetables and sauces.
The Challenge:
As a brand-new concept in a competitive food market, Grit Bowls needed a compelling identity and launch strategy that would educate potential customers, generate excitement, and position the company as both innovative and accessible. The goal was to introduce grits in a modern, customizable format while honoring its cultural roots.
My Role:
I led the development of the brand’s launch campaign, focusing on identity creation, digital presence, and customer engagement. This included building a visual and verbal brand language, crafting messaging that emphasized customization and flavor, and designing content systems to support social media, web, and in-person activations.

EXECUTION
Starting with just an idea, I partnered with the client to build the Grit Bowls Catering brand from the ground up. I led the entire creative process, beginning with the development of the logo and visual identity, followed by a functional website designed to highlight the menu and capture catering inquiries.
Custom order forms were created to streamline the ordering process, while business cards, menus, and other branded materials were developed to support both digital and in-person engagement.
These materials were intentionally designed not only to attract new customers through strong visual branding, but also to serve as clear calls-to-action for satisfied customers to engage further—whether through reorders, referrals, or social sharing. This cohesive approach allowed Grit Bowls to enter the market with a polished, recognizable presence and a strategy focused on both growth and retention.
RESULTS
Simplified a New Concept for the Public
Through clear messaging, visual branding, and menu design, the customizable grits bowl concept was made easy to understand, helping first-time customers quickly grasp the offering and feel confident placing an order.
Increased Bookings for Events and Festivals
The cohesive brand identity and professional marketing materials led to a noticeable rise in bookings for local festivals, pop-ups, and private catering events.
Established a Consistent Social Media Presence
Built and launched branded social media channels with a clear content system, making it easy for the team to maintain consistency, highlight menu items, and engage with followers.




Business Cards
The Grit Bowls business cards were designed to be both functional and eye-catching, aligning with the brand’s bold identity. Featuring the vibrant logo on a rich red background, the cards use clean, modern typography to clearly present essential contact and service information.
On one side, a custom QR code offers an immediate call-to-action, directing potential customers to learn more or place an order. The layout includes key service details—such as menu offerings, service areas, and event availability—making it easy for recipients to understand the concept at a glance.
Yard Sign
The Grit Bowls yard sign was created to quickly capture attention and drive foot traffic during street pop-up events. Featuring the bold, retro-inspired logo on a deep red background, the sign maintains strong brand recognition while remaining easy to read from a distance.
Key service highlights—such as “Breakfast + Lunch,” “Custom Grit Bowls,” and “Unlimited Toppings”—were included to immediately communicate what the brand offers. Designed with visibility and simplicity in mind, the sign acts as a visual hook, drawing in passersby and encouraging them to explore the new food concept.
Strategically placed near sidewalks and busy intersections, it serves as a low-cost but high-impact marketing tool to generate local interest and engagement.
Catering Pamphlet
The Grit Bowls catering pamphlet was created as a vibrant, on-brand introduction to the company’s services. Headlined by the energetic tagline “Delicious fun in a bowl!”, the design reflects the playful spirit and bold flavors behind the concept.
The pamphlet includes key details about the types of events Grit Bowls serves—such as festivals, pop-ups, corporate gatherings, private parties, and more—along with flexible serving styles like buffet setup, individual bowls, or made-to-order stations. It also highlights the fully customizable menu, allowing guests to build their own grit bowls with unlimited toppings for breakfast or lunch.
To make the booking process easy, the pamphlet features a QR code linking directly to the catering request form, as well as clear contact information for follow-up inquiries. The result is a compelling, informative piece that both educates and excites potential clients.






Logo Development
The Grit Bowls logo was created in collaboration with a graphic designer to bring the brand’s vision to life. The design features rounded, flowing typography that subtly mirrors the shape of a bowl, evoking warmth and comfort. A retro-inspired serif font adds character while maintaining clarity and impact. The golden yellow and deep red color palette draws from traditional Southern comfort food, while leaf accents highlight freshness and customization. The result is a bold, approachable logo that works seamlessly across digital and physical brand materials.


Event Menu
This campaign honored officers who lost their lives in the line of duty by providing daily updates on both the website and Instagram Stories. Each tribute included the officer’s name, department, date of incident, and a respectful visual featuring a headrest graphic and department colors. The campaign was designed to pay tribute with dignity while strengthening HG2’s connection to the communities it serves.
